Engaging immigrant communities in preventing violence against women

This module builds on Understanding culture, race and gender and focuses on best practice models and principles for representing, engaging and collaborating with immigrant, refugee, and faith communities in violence prevention initiatives.

Module Aims

To provide participants with best practice models and principles for representing, engaging and collaborating with immigrant, refugee, and faith communities in their violence prevention projects and programs.

Module Objectives / Outcomes

  • Participants can apply a complex understanding of ‘culture’ to the issue of preventing violence against women in immigrant and refugee communities.
  • Participants can describe best practice models and principles for engaging with immigrant and refugee communities in violence prevention.
  • Participants can explain the issues involved in engaging with faith-based leaders in the prevention of violence against women and describe key factors that should be considered when doing so.
