MCWH is proud to have worked with talented artist @jessicatedim.art on our Reconciliation Action Plan 2022 – 23.
Jess’s cover art is entitled: Ngaya, nginda, ngiyani Australian. It aims to reflect the cultural diversity amongst women in Australia and recognise the impact that teaching and sharing our cultures have in strengthening our communities and working towards reconciliation. Gunimaa (mother earth) that the women stand on features flowing lines, recognising the intrinsic connection we have to our country, and its importance to the existence of First Nations peoples. The circles and lines above the women reflect the journey each migrant and refugee faces, often leaving loved ones behind but making new relationships along the way. The First Nations woman is shown speaking an acknowledgement in her Yuwaalaraay language to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples, whose lands MCWH is situated on. To the women behind her she says “Yaamangindaay gulbiaay. Ngaya GamilaroiYuwalaraay Yinarr. Ngiyaniwarrawaanha walaaybaaga nhama. Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung maranyanaanhi, yanaaylanha, yanaayla.” This translates to “Hello welcome everyone. Iam a Gamilaroi/Yuwaalaraaywoman. We are proud to talk our language and to sing and dance it. We remember the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung ancestors, past, present, and future.”
