Dear WRAP-pers,
This month, we faced sharp a return to lockdown as transmissions in Victoria continued to increase by the day. Overnight, public housing towers were locked from any outdoor activity, while suburbs entered stage 3 restrictions without any timely multilingual information and support.
Since March we have advocated for migrant women’s leadership in COVID-19 response to make sure that migrant women’s voices are heard. In this issue, we pass the mic to women who have lived in Melbourne’s public housing to share their story.
Community member Amona Hassab, reflects on some of the challenges her community faced, brought on by overpolicing and the lack of community consultation. Lucia Li, our Board Member reflects on memories of growing up in the flats. These stories of strength, resilience and solidarity are some of many that need to be heard.
In sector news, we’re continuing the conversation on migrant women’s health during COVID-19 with our Executive Director, Adele Murdolo speaking at the GEN VIC Under the Radar forum on 6 August 2020. It’s not an event to miss so don’t forget to book a ticket!
Until next time,
The WRAP Team
