Understanding how race, culture and gender work in Australia is essential to building your organisations ability to do real intersectional work. We can’t do intersectional work in policy or practice until we understand how oppressive systems actually impact peoples lives.
MCWH invites you to a 3-part online Intersectionality Training Program. This series is created to support the professional development of workers across a broad range of industries. This course is suitable for anyone who is wanting to explore the ways an intersectional framework can apply to their workplace practice.
What will participants gain from doing this training?
- An understanding of the history of the concept of intersectionality & an ability to describe its key parts.
- A knowledge of how intersectionality today informs social justice movements (feminist, anti-racist, LGBTIQA+ and violence prevention movements), policy and service delivery.
- Meaningful reflections of how power operates in our world – thinking about how race & gender are constructed in society and the impact this has on ourselves and the people we support in our work.
- Begin to think about how to apply intersectionality to their work & workplace policies.
Why MCWH?
- Intersectional feminist approach: An intersectional feminist approach means seeing the many ways women's lives, health and decisions are impacted by overlapping social and institutional forces.
- Peer led: Since 1978 we have worked for the recognition of migrant and refugee women as leaders, experts, agents for change decision makers and active participants in their health and well-being.
- First-hand knowledge: Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health (MCWH) is a community-based organisation led by and for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
- Evidence-based: Building a clearly communicated evidence-base and dispelling assumptions around migrant women’s health is central to increasing all women’s opportunities for better health and access to better services.
