When it comes to health and wellbeing, international students are an often underrepresented and undervalued group in Australian society. International education is Australia’s third largest export industry, generating AUD$16.3 billion in export income in 2010-2011. But beyond the significant contribution that international students make to Australia’s economy, they enrich Australian communities, expand Australia’s global networks, contribute to Australia’s labour force and they might even become Australian citizens in the future. International students currently come from many different countries, with a high proportion of students from China (29.6%) and India (14.6%).
